Natural air freshener “Take me home”
“Nothing revives the past so completely as a smell that was once associated with it.” Vladimir Nabokov
What does your home smell like?
The sense of smell is one of the most powerful senses we have although we often underestimate it. Smells transport you back to powerful and emotional memories and it is closely linked with memory. The sense of smell is according to scientific experiments more strong than hearing and taste. I think although it depends on each person.
There is no doubt many want to smell good at home and it is a key to feel comfortable and to create a cozy and warm atmosphere at our place.
There is something really interesting in the world of smells and it is that each house, every person, has its own smell although we do not even realize.
The smell is something very personal as well, and the same perfume can be wonderful or unbearable depending on each person.
If we were asked which smell we would like at our home, most probably would say clean, right?
But, what does clean smell like?
I’m sure many of us link the clean smell to cleaning products, but we forget that these contain chemical ingredients harmful to our health.
It is actually nature that offers the range of smells and commercial air fresheners are just a reproduction, a chemical copy of the original scent.
Maybe you are thinking that creating an air freshener at home seems difficult but it is much more simple than you think, and the result will surprise you.
As you’ll see in the recipe, I chose the smell of lavender because I think lavender smells like clean, jasmine flower because its aroma make me feel comfortable and neroli and ylang ylang because they both evoke me freshness.
All these aromas together means home to me and so I called this natural air freshener “Take me home” because it is exactly what I look for when I get home, the scent of clean, fresh and cozy.
And you, what smells do you expect to find when they get home? Lavender, rose, eucalyptus, lemon or pine?

HOW TO MAKE YOUR CUSTOM NATURAL AIR FRESHENER
AIR FRESHENER “TAKE ME HOME”
About 100 ml
1 Dark diffuser bottle
60 ml lavender and rose water (hydrosol)
25 ml witch hazel
15 ml alcohol (1 tablespoon)
20 drops of essential oil (5 of jasmine, ylang ylang 5 and 10 of neroli)
Place the alcohol in the bottle and add the drops of essential oils you choose. Add them one by one and gently stir the bottle to make the oils mix well with alcohol.
Then add the hydrosol and witch hazel.
Shake the bottle again and let sit a few hours, even days, so that the aromas are resting and mixing well.
Do not forget to gently shake each use.
This freshener will keep for months without losing quality aroma, although it is true that after several months can go slowly losing its intensity.
